About Sumedha

Quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) is a powerful non-invasive neuroimaging technique.
QSM features are:

  • QSM provides a sensitive and biologically specific contrast of magnetic susceptibilities.
  • It has a unique capacity to distinguish paramagnetic and diamagnetic contributions (haemorrhage, and calcification).
  • QSM is becoming increasingly popular for identifying the relationship between disease conditions and brain iron deposition.
  • QSM has a quantitative measure that allows for longitudinal monitoring of disease progression across subjects.

However, QSM requires a series of sophisticated processing steps which are based on understanding the relationship between magnetic susceptibility, magnetic field, and MR signal. Hence, there is a need for a reliable, comprehensive pipeline for creating and processing QSM maps and extracting QSM-based iron susceptibility values from various sub-cortical and cortical brain regions. SUMEDHA package is developed to cater to this need.
