I completed my predoctoral studies at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, specializing in Neuroanatomy. I then obtained a PhD degree from the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, USA, supervised by Dr. Sarah Bottjer) on the development and organization of the anterior forebrain pathway which is important for song learning in zebra finches. After my PhD, I worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Jon Kaas's lab (Vanderbilt University, Nashville, USA) on the connections of the representation of the oral cavity in the somatosensory cortex of new world monkeys before joining NBRC in 2003
